While technology is whittling away at this factor, current statistics show that by far the most common technology used to access the Internet is the modem. If your website material takes too long to download, users will move on to the next site. Users do not wait for flashy graphics to download; they do not have time in this busy world, which is why they are using the Internet in the first place!
Impact
While it is impossible to design a site suited to every person's tastes or computer type and settings, a good web designer should be able to design a website which adequately targets the major portion of a clients market, ensuring your site is both appealing to and is viewed correctly by the majority of that target market.
Usability
You must ensure that your users are able to use your website without confusion or without getting lost. Easy navigation, consistent structure and quality layout contribute to an easy-to-use website which ensures you aren't losing customers unnecessarily.
